So I’ve been using the SkinMedica Retinol Complex 0.5 for three weeks. I have seen much difference, however, I have decided to stop using it… at least for the summer.
I have never used any form of Retinol before and this post will be about what I’ve learned so far. Check out my previous post for more information about product itself.
1 time per week, two pumps
I didn’t see any difference during the first week. I wasn’t red and I wasn’t peeling. However, it seemed as if my wounds were healing much quicker than usually. But that might also be the result of me not trying to touch my face during the treatment. I didn’t use any sunscreen which I know, is really bad, especially now when the sun is coming out. But since I didn’t have any reaction I didn’t bother getting one.
Two weeks later I started to peal a lot. Extreme amounts. I was neither sore or red. It was difficult to put on my bareMinerals original foundation simply because it didn’t stay on as good as it usually does. I still wasn’t using any sunscreen and this time I got burned when staying out in the sun for approximately two hours (I do not usually get burned). I got a nice tan but I lost it quite quickly because of the continuous peeling. I decided to buy sunscreen with SPF 50+ from a local pharmacy, Eucerin Sun Fluid Face Mattifying SPF 50, this one will be reviewed in my next post so stay tuned!
I was hoping that the peeling would stop during the third week but it did not. I suspect it’s because of my suntanning habit. Since I’m planing to stay out in the sun a lot this summer I have decided to stop using the SkinMedica Retinol Complex 0.5 simply because I don’t want to my skin flaking every single day. I don’t have the patience to keep on going and hoping for the peeling to stop on its own.
Overall result after three weeks of treatment
- Skin is healing much quicker than before
- My scars have become less apparent
- Breakouts have reduced dramatically
What happened when I stopped using SkinMedica Retinol Complex after three weeks?
I took my dosages every week on Wednesdays, the fourth week I decided to skip the Retinol treatment and already on Thursday I noticed new breakouts on forehead. In my case I do believe that I could achieve flawless skin with the SkinMedica Retinol Complex 0.5 treatment, however, I have to use it continuously and this might not be ideal during summer especially since I love being outside a lot. I will continue using SkinMedica Retinol Complex 0.5 in September/October and follow up with updates.
Have you had any experience with Retinol products in the summer? Please share if you have.
